Ballandean Estate Wines is an icon in the Queensland Wine Industry and has been owned and operated by the Puglisi family since 1929. Four generations of the family have nurtured the vines and produced wines with the result so far being award winning vintages and hospitality that is unsurpassed.
are made by Dylan Rhymer who has achieved great results since he began at Ballandean in 2000. Dylan has applied techniques he has learned from a number of vintages throughout Europe and brings a great wealth of experience to the winemaking team.
The wines produced are varied with signature styles being Viognier, Sylvaner, Shiraz and Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc. The range of wines available reflects the belief that there is a wine for all palates and to this end, the wine styles range from dry to sweet and our specialty fortifieds.
The Vines have been carefully nurtured by owner Angelo Puglisi since 1968 when he and wife Mary purchased the vineyard from his father. The first wine grape vines were planted then and are still producing some of our finest wines today. To date, 100 acres have been planted in our 2 Ballandean vineyards with 25 different varieties so far. Angelo has always relished finding new varieties that suit the Granite Belt conditions and he is continuing his search today with 2 more varieties being planted in 2009.
The Family who operate the business are Angelo and Mary Puglisi, along with the daughters and son-in-laws, Leeanne and Mario Gangemi and Robyn and Ian Henderson.
Angelo and his team carefully tend the vines and Mary operates the Barrel Room Café. Leeanne & Robyn manage the cellar door, marketing and administration while Mario manages the winery staff and production of the wines and Ian handles the Export arm of the business.
Ballandean Estates most outstanding feature is the commitment of the family to excellence. As a team, the Puglisi family is committed to building a successful business, increasing awareness of the industry and promoting the region by organising events that attract large numbers of tourists and encourage them to return again and again. Individually, members of the family are representatives on local and regional wine and tourism committees that assist in promotion and expansion of the region.

Opera in the Vineyard is held in partnership with the Stanthorpe Rotary Club and is the Club's major fundraiser. It is anticipated that the event will have raised 1 million dollars in the next couple of years – a great achievement for a rural club and boutique winery!!
Opera attracts around 1400 guests each year and is a black tie event featuring world class performers, award winning wines, spectacular scenery and a gala dinner dance in the evening. Held on the May long weekend each year, this event has established itself as the Granite Belts major cultural event.
The Gamekeepers Dinner is an intimate meal featuring local wild asparagus and game meats prepared by the Barrelroom Cafe chefs, Matt & Bobbi Wells. The dinner features five courses of game such as quail, rabbit and wallaby perfectly matched with our award winning wines.
