2019 Opera Block Shiraz
Our award-winning single vineyard premium Shiraz is sourced from the Opera Block’s oldest vines. Winemaker Dylan Rhymer has delivered a delicate balance of fruit and French oak.
- This Shiraz is an eloquent demonstration of the Granite Belt’s terroir, boasting ripe berry and cassis aromas.
- On the palate, intense blackcurrant, light pepper and spices combine with medium tannins for palate structure and a smooth, lingering finish.
- Aged for 12 to 15 months in air dried French oak barriques.

2018 Opera Block Shiraz – 50th Anniversary Edition
Rare limited edition Shiraz from our oldest vines expressing 2018’s outstanding vintage.
Master of Wine Peter Scudamore-Smith: Ballandean Estate’s 2018 Opera Block Shiraz is a sophisticated example of cool climate Shiraz. This 50th vintage has tannins of silk, a caressing texture, lovely length of black fruits, oak spice, spotlessly woven flavours and a palate-pleasing light to medium body. Drink now in that fresh zone of vibrant joy aged 2 to 5 years, or enjoy at its maturing peaks of 15 to 25-plus years.

2018 Durif
Our single vineyard Durif is a premium dry, full-bodied wine. The ultimate choice for any lover of big reds, it expresses blue and black fruits, and is well-structured with an intense acidic spine. Enjoy its vibrant and sophisticated cool climate expression, a gorgeous inky purple with a crimson meniscus in the glass.
Master of Wine Peter Scudamore-Smith: This wine is broody; swirl it to open up; there is forest floor, lots of exotic spice and mint sweetness. Yet the most powerful expression is the blue and black fruits which layer my mouth; that’s the flavour of Durif—I can assure you there is plenty. A gratuitously full-bodied variety yet that is tempered by growth in the Granite Belt, meaning more soft tannin focus and less grip—a powder-coated tongue is not an extreme sensation from this French variety. Resounding taste, a mouthful.

2019 Opera Block Cabernet Sauvignon
Our single vineyard Cabernet is a full-bodied premium wine. It exhibits a bouquet of lovely rich red berries that translate to a huge mouthful on the palate. Toasty French oak meets with soft earthy tannins to finish each delectable mouthful.

2021 Opera Block Chardonnay
An elegant creamy, buttery integration of French oak with a white fruit bouquet

2019 Nebbiolo
Our single vineyard Nebbiolo is an excellent expression of Granite Belt terroir, and a highly-praised Strangebird™ varietal. This easy-drinking dry red has a savoury, herbaceous style with a touch of cherry, tar and roses, complemented by the orange hues synonymous with aged Nebbiolo. The palate is medium-bodied with red fruits, strong tannins, high acidity and earthy tones.

2018 Malbec
Our single-vineyard Malbec is a rare and alternative red. This Strange Bird™ is a true globe trotter, originating in Bordeaux and migrating to Argentina, California, New Zealand and Australia.
- A medium to full weight wine, it has a similar weight to Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, with hints of violet and blueberry on the bouquet.
- The palate is a juicy blend of black fruits and supple tannins with touches of blackcurrant and cherry.
- Enjoy its robust structure, plush mouthfeel, and smooth, savoury lingering finish.

2019 Saperavi
This single vineyard Strangebird™ delivers an intense bouquet—hints of licorice and berries and a bold dry palate of savoury blue fruits with hints of cherry and plum. The finish is smooth with lingering French oak. Saperavi hails from the Republic of Georgia, where they have been making wine for more than 8000 years.
